Essential Renovation Advice

We attended this year’s National Homebuilding & Renovating Show which took place on 21 – 24 March at the NEC, Birmingham.
When extending, renovating or improving your home there are countless choices and decisions to make.
Make as many decisions as you can up-front
Try to plan ahead: decide on what you want to do to the property, and try and stick to it!
Don’t try to do too much
Any drastic changes to the essence of a house, such as being out of scale or proportion, can damage the charm and value of the property that attracted you in the first place.
Design and layout is key
If you’re extending or remodelling your home, make sure you consider the design and layout of the rest of the house.
Explore your options first
Before you commit to an extension, have you thought of other options? For example, converting your roof has the benefit of often falling into permitted development rights so may not need planning.
Cost isn’t the only factor!
It might not be a case of getting the maximum space for the minimum cost – sometimes it pays to build smaller but to a higher spec.
